Berlin Calling Response

1. To Ickarus drugs seem to be a way of escape from his crazy life and just something he does. He took them for recreation and even before shows to get him in the performing mood of his.
2. Ickarus's fans are taking these drugs before and during his shows. They are taking things like Cocaine, Pot, MDA and other psychedelic drugs. Some seem to be snorting the drugs and some are taking pills and even injection. Ickarus's fans take these drugs for the high, the feeling and a escape from life.
3.The culture Ickarus is in focuses on drugs because of the feeling of taking them, the escape from reality and  its one of those "forbidden fruits" that we are not supposed to do. In other words its rebellious.
4. As far as standards of the German youth in this "scene" depicted in the movie "Berlin Calling" an the people I see, they are different. In this society of the USA drugs are mostly looked down upon and same for the people who use them. The club scene in Germany seems to be about the same as it is here but in some areas the Germans are more open about such as sexuality and sex its self. In the states sex is one thing that has mainly been private but it is starting to change and has been changing since the 60's.
5. The youth in Germany could change Germany's status as a industrial nation. They could make it more industrial and stronger but just as well can make it go the other way. Ickarus does know how to work but can slack off and the drugs only intensify this. Really there is hard working people and lazy people in any culture so it really does depend of the amount of either.
6. I really have not seen any other movies that compare to "Berlin Calling"

As a whole Berlin Calling was a good movie. From what I could tell the acting was good but it’s kind of hard to evaluate acting while reading subtitles and not fully understanding the language. The plot was good too although kind of sad and shocking but it does show one of the many subculture that is out there and its positives and negatives. The positive being the upbeat music, the humanity people have and the notion that people can change their lives. The negatives though are the drugs and the pressure people face and how unbearable it can be. There are so many things that can make a person crack and for some drugs is an easy way out. The film does show cultural differences between the USA and Germany. The one that really jumped out at me was the openness of sexuality and sex itself. There were several scenes that showed some very explicit material. Yes that is shown here too but not to that extent or at least that I have seen. As far as a person’s sexuality people in Europe are much more open to the gay and lesbian community. This is shown when Ickarus’s ex-girlfriend expresses love for her friend in front of Ickarus. Overall though the youth here and in Germany seem to be about the same. They both want to change things for the better and rebel from the norm as well. To conclude this post Berlin Calling is a good movie and shows several differences from the youth in America and the youth in Germany. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to know more about the German youth and youth in general.
